FINTECH | LATAM | FULL-TIME | POST-SEED

Lead Engineer

Backend & Architecture

Location Remote, Latin America
Type Full-time
Stage Post-seed
Reports to Founder & CEO
Compensation $75,000 to $100,000 USD plus equity

About the role

The company is a pre-launch fintech startup building the first fractional stock gifting platform. We make it easy for anyone to give or receive real stocks as gifts, paired with built-in financial education that makes investing fun and approachable.

We are seeking a Lead Engineer to join as our first engineering hire post-seed funding. This is a foundational role. You will own the technical architecture of the entire platform, build the backend from the ground up, and serve as the technical co-pilot for everything we build. You will report directly to the Founder & CEO and partner closely with a senior frontend engineer. We are building on a unified TypeScript stack: Node.js on the backend, React Native and Next.js on the frontend, so both engineers share the same language and can collaborate fluidly across the codebase. We are looking for a builder who has taken a product from zero to launch, not a manager who oversees people who build.

What you'll own

■ Design and own the full backend architecture for the company, including APIs, data models, webhooks, and infrastructure.

■ Core integrations:
› Modern Treasury for FBO account management and ACH orchestration.
› Alpaca Broker API for brokerage account opening, KYC, and fractional share execution.
› Plaid for bank verification and ACH origination.

■ Architect the 90-day gift hold and expiry refund logic with full audit trail and webhook handling.
■ Design idempotent, atomic transaction flows. If a webhook fires twice or out of order, the subledger must remain consistent and no gift should be double-processed or lost.
■ Build robust webhook ingestion and retry logic for all asynchronous events, including ACH settlement confirmations, Alpaca KYC completions, ledger updates, and expiry triggers.
■ Own subledger reconciliation, ensuring the company's internal subledger, Modern Treasury FBO account state, and Alpaca account states are always in agreement with a clear audit trail.
■ Implement observability and alerting for the financial layer. Failed ACH transactions, missed webhooks, ledger discrepancies, and OFAC workflow exceptions must surface immediately.
■ Own security, compliance-adjacent engineering (NACHA field handling, OFAC workflow integration), and data integrity.
■ Set engineering standards, code review processes, and delivery timelines.
■ Collaborate directly with the Founder on product architecture decisions and technical roadmap.
■ Scale the platform from zero to launch. You have done this before and know what it takes.

What we're looking for

■ 7+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead role.
■ Proven experience scaling a product from zero to launch. You have shipped a greenfield backend into production.
■ Deep experience with RESTful API design, microservices or modular monolith architecture, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP preferred).
■ Strong understanding of idempotency, distributed locking, and atomic operations in a financial context. You know how to prevent double-charges and lost transactions.
■ Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js. Our backend stack. Required.
■ Experience building type-safe financial systems. You understand why TypeScript's compile-time safety matters when passing gift amounts, account IDs, and ledger balances between services.
■ Experience integrating third-party financial APIs such as payment rails, brokerage infrastructure, or banking APIs.
■ Experience architecting webhook-driven, event-based systems with reliable retry and failure recovery logic.
■ Familiarity with ACH payment flows and financial data integrity requirements.
■ Prior experience at a fintech, neobank, payments company, or brokerage-adjacent startup is strongly preferred.
■ Experience with Alpaca Broker API, Modern Treasury, Plaid, or similar platforms is a significant advantage.
■ Comfortable working in a zero-to-one environment. You are building infrastructure that does not yet exist.
■ Fluent in English for written and verbal communication with a US-based founder and partners.
■ Based in Latin America with strong timezone overlap with US Central or Eastern time.

Nice to have

■ Experience at or integrating with Alpaca Broker API partners (tyba, RUUT, Traderpal, or similar).
■ Familiarity with the Modern Treasury, Alpaca, or Plaid TypeScript/Node.js SDKs.
■ Background in NACHA ACH standards, OFAC screening workflows, or US brokerage compliance requirements.
■ Mobile backend experience, including REST APIs powering iOS and Android apps.
■ Prior startup experience. You know what it means to ship fast and own outcomes.

Compensation & benefits

■ Competitive salary: $75,000 to $100,000 USD, benchmarked to senior LATAM market rates.
■ Equity participation. You are joining at the ground floor.
■ Fully remote. Work from anywhere in Latin America.
■ Flexible hours with a strong async culture and daily overlap with US Central or Eastern time.
■ Direct access to and collaboration with the Founder on all major decisions.

About the company

The company is a pre-launch fintech startup currently raising a seed round. The platform is built on a modern, compliance-first technology stack: Modern Treasury (FBO + ACH), Alpaca Markets (brokerage infrastructure), and Plaid (bank verification). We have retained Orrick as legal counsel and are working toward SEC RIA registration. Target launch: December 2026.
