Overview

At Lupa, we're hiring for an Engineering Manager to lead a distributed engineering team working side by side with US-based engineering leadership. This is a true player-coach role — you'll stay hands-on with code, architecture, and design decisions while building and coaching the people who report to you.

What makes this opportunity exciting: you won't be starting from zero. You'll step into working, growing teams that already include engineers Lupa has placed — so you're inheriting momentum, not building from scratch. You'll also get the stability of a profitable, growing organization combined with the energy and creative ownership of an early-stage environment. You get to ship, shape, and lead — without worrying about runway.

If you've been managing people but miss writing code — or leading technically but want more ownership of people and outcomes — this role is built for exactly that balance.

What You'll Do

  • Spend roughly 30–40% of your time hands-on: writing code, shaping architecture, contributing to design docs, and weighing in on technical decisions.

  • Coach and develop your engineers, run hiring, and represent your team in conversations with US-based stakeholders and senior leadership.

  • Own team architecture discussions with the CTO and senior leadership — not just implementing decisions made elsewhere, but helping shape them.

  • Mentor engineers and help them grow into more senior and leadership roles themselves.

  • Translate technical work into business impact — connecting what your team builds to the problems it solves for real users.

  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy and a solution-oriented mindset — diagnosing problems and driving fixes end-to-end without waiting to be told how.

Who You Are

Must-haves:

  • A track record of ownership — you've led or owned features and systems end-to-end, not just implemented what was assigned. You can speak clearly about a project from the problem, through the hard parts, to the results.

  • Strong backend experience — C#/.NET is a plus, and Java/Kotlin backgrounds are equally welcome. What matters most is that you can explain why a technical decision was made, not just what was built.

  • Demonstrated people leadership — you've coached or mentored engineers, ideally helping them grow into more senior or leadership roles.

  • Clear, confident communication — you can explain technical tradeoffs and impact in a few focused minutes, and you communicate fluently in English day-to-day with a US-based team.

  • A couple of years in each past position with a clear line of progression — growing scope, growing ownership, or a path from individual contributor to technical leadership.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf as part of how you build software today.

  • Experience in a startup, founding-engineer, or early product-build environment where you owned outcomes with limited hand-holding.

What's In It For You

  • Family Major Medical Insurance

  • Grocery vouchers (10%, up to MXN $3,400/month)

  • 30 days aguinaldo (end-of-year bonus)

  • Fully remote, based in Mexico, on Mexico entity payroll — full statutory legal protections

  • Statutory benefits plus company additions on top

  • Real growth: a chance to lead a team that's already in motion, with genuine influence over architecture and product direction

  • Compensation: competitive monthly salary in the range of MXN $130,000–$150,000/month, with flexibility at the top end for standout candidates.

Application
